For the fifth time in a row, team Spierings managed to finish the Dakar Rally successfully. Paul competed in the rally three times on a motorcycle and now, for the second time together with Jan Pieter van der Stelt, in a buggy. The Rally went very well for the team, resulting in a well-deserved 14th place in the buggy/SSV class.
Team Spierings had difficult moments in the first days of the Rally because of the heavy rain. This was something they did not expect in the middle of the desert. Nevertheless, Team Spierings managed to finish around the top 20 each time. With the valuable experience of last year, Paul Spierings knew he could perform much better. Thanks to the products of ERA, MPM and Optimal, the buggy remained top fit throughout the rally.
After the rest day, Paul got better and better control of the buggy. In stage 8 Paul finished 8th and in stage 9 he achieved another top 10 place with less than 5 minutes difference from the front runner. Because Jan Pieter van der Stelt was navigating very well which ensured continuous improvement in the general standings. In the very last stage the team took no risks and managed to finish in 9th place. This resulted in a great final ranking in 14th place.
Overall Team Spierings also finished as the best classified Dutchman, a great result! MPM, ERA and Optimal are super proud of Team Spierings and congratulate the team with this top performance!
